Just 5 Steps to a New Bedroom
Generally, people spend about 8 hours a day in their bedroom. It is a room where you can reflect your personal style in the colors, fabrics, furnishings and atmosphere. Follow these steps.
Step 1: Remove clutter - Re-decorating (and even cleaning) a cluttered room is more difficult than necessary. First, you need to remove everything that doesn't belong in your bedroom. Then put away everything that does belong (clothes that are laying around, jewelry, etc.). Closet organizers and clear plastic tubs. are good investments to help with this. Remember, a place for everything and everything in its place. Decide on a place for each item.
Step 2: Furniture repair - When you look at your bedroom furniture, how does it look? If it is not in good repair, this is a good time to repair it. You can make your bedroom furniture look perfect again using touch-up markers from the hardware store. Putting up with broken furniture isn't fun so replace it. Moving furniture around helps give your room a fresh look. Be creative but remember function too. Try to keep an overall balanced look. Let the bed be the center of attention in your bedroom.
Step 3: Bedding - I recommend that you choose your bedding BEFORE choosing paint. Paint is available in all colors imaginable. Eliminate hassle and headaches. Use the bedding to select the right color of paint!

There are differences between duvets and comforters. They are alike in some ways. They are insulation while you sleep. Duvets are usually white or off-white and should be used with a duvet cover. Just slip the cover off for laundering so you don't have to wash the whole duvet (filling and all) each time. 3-5 years between cleanings is all that a duvet needs.
Comforters are not just white. They are covered with the "fashion fabric" on the outside and do not need a cover. Comforters take a lot of room in a regular washing machine and a long time to dry in a dryer. Dry cleaning a comforter gets costly. Another option, especially if you already have a comforter, is to put it inside a duvet cover the same as you would a duvet.
Carefully select sizes of bedding. Web stores offer a huge inventory to suit any taste. Before ordering, know your mattress measurements. Measure the length, width, and depth (thickness) of your mattress. Fitted sheets and mattress pads must be the right depth for your mattress. The "drop" of a bed skirt is measured vertically from the floor to the bottom of the mattress.
Step 4: Choosing Paint - For an inexpensive yet effective room transformation, be sure to paint the walls (and possibly the ceiling).
Take your new bedding (both sets) with you to the paint store. Ask for help. Find a color that will work with both sets. Don't worry about "matching" the paint color to the bedding. In fact, it's better if it doesn't. Just find one that will compliment or contrast the colors nicely. Slightly lighter colors on the ceiling look better.
Step 5: Complete the Look - After the paint is dry, hang pictures, paintings, and wall decoration if you desire. Install curtain rods, curtains, etc. and make your bed with the new bedding.
